Hoofddorp1909 – 2009!
The Vooruit Foundation is the organization behind the annual Haarlemmermeer Horse Show that has been held since 1909 at Haarlemmermeer. The Foundation was established on 6 June 1989. Before that date the show was organized by the Vooruit Association (Vereniging Vooruit). Last year’s show was a special one since we were celebrating our centennial with a show lasting 10 days.
There is an old English saying, “no feet, no horse”. At Haarlemmermeer there is a variation on this: “no volunteers, no show”. The Vooruit Foundation committee consists of eleven enthusiastic members who give the show new drive each year.
Alongside the committee, there is a large group of volunteers every year, standing by to assist before and during the annual Haarlemmermeer Horse Show. A fantastic group of young people who are on hand virtually day and night to make sure the event runs smoothly.
The Concours Hippique Haarlemmermeer in Hoofddorp has developed into a large equestrian event, with free entry for the public and financed by sponsor contributions from business.

Hoofddorp and Nieuw-Vennep are the two main villages in the municipality of Haarlemmermeer. Haarlemmermeer is a polder, the history of which, as well as the history of the struggle of Holland against the water, can be seen in Museum De Cruquius, situated 5 km. from the event.
The main Dutch airport Schiphol is only 10 minutes by car from the event.
The centre of Amsterdam is easy to reach by public transport. Of course this is a great town for shopping, with excellent restaurants and nightlife.
But don’t underestimate Haarlem, a smaller and very interesting and cozy town, also only 15 minutes from the event.
The North Sea beach and the seaside resort of Zandvoort are 15 km away and certainly worth a visit.
